The Bone Church and the Clock Tower

Today we took a train to Sedlec, a little village near Kutna Hora.  There is an amazing old church there with incredible sculptures made out of human bones.  A graveyard flooded after the plague, and they ended up with the bones of 40,000 people and no where to put them.  A crazy monk decided to decorate the church with them.  There are garlands of skulls and crossbones, a coat of arms, and words and numbers, all made of bones.  There is also an amazing chandelier which contains at least one each of every single bone in the human body.  I don't think there is anything like this anywhere in the world.  Just like the catacombs in Paris, the mood is eternal and respectful, with no creepiness at all.  It was one of the most unusual and incredible experiences I've ever had!

Allie and Marc and I went to the top of the clock tower in the town square tonight, where we got a wonderful view of the city and could look down on the Christmas Market from above.  What a great way to spend our last night in Prague!
