You could even get your picture taken with them.
Today, the group hosted a Krampus Run with twenty five separate Krampus groups from three different countries participating. Because each group is from a different area, they all have slightly different takes on the old legends, and each group had their own style of Krampus figure. Most were made from natural materials, with carved wooden masks and real animal horns and furs. We waited at the side of the street for about half an hour, before the police came through and formed a pathway right beside us for the parade to go through. So instead of being two or three deep in the crowd, we were right close to the action. It was kind of like the opening ceremony of the Olympics. A flag bearer would walk by carrying a sign with the name of the group, followed by a couple of people in logo uniforms- like coaches, who helped with crowd control and made sure their Krampusses didn't fall down at curbs (it must be hard to see through those masks). Finally the Krampusses, like athletes, ran past, ringing their rump bells and frightening children and the elderly, all in good fun of course. I only saw two children reduced to tears and one adult scream in terror. Not bad when you consider the fact that there were four hundred Krampusses in the event!
