Dad's Big Birthday

We started Dad's birthday with a stroll around the Nyphenburg Palace grounds.  Lots of birds and boule courts, right up his alley.

Next we headed for the main square Christmas market where we watched the famous glockenspiel which performs every day at 11:00 and noon.

We went back to the outdoor market for a snack.  Dad got a bottle of this year's Beaujolais to toast his big day.

Next we headed for more Christkindlmarkts.  First was the Chinese Tower inside the English Gradens, which is an enormous park in the middle of Munich.

Our favorite was the Medieval Market.  Lots of fun costumes, beautifully decorated booths, and food cooked over open flames.

For dinner we visited the famous Hofbräuhaus, the giant Munich beer hall.  Absolutely enormous, and they only serve beer to huge liter glasses.  Mom and Allie needed two hands to lift them when full, but the servers could carry three in each hand.  Amazing!  There was a brass polka band playing, and a sweet little old lady stopped waltzing with her husband so that she could conduct a song.

All in all, Dad says this was a wonderful birthday, a once in a lifetime experience!  He's a very happy birthday boy.
